La Guette Millésime 2018 Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Extra Brut

Gimonnet-Oger

$89

The La Guette Millésime 2018 features chardonnay grapes that were put through their paces. An exceptionally rainy winter, a very mild spring and  extreme summer heat, drought and sunshine produced a large quantity of fruit and plenty of top-quality musts for the cellar. These conditions were wholly suited to Jean Luc’s old-school approach of minimal intervention during the fermentation process. He refrains from controlling the temperature and uses old, wooden tanks that allow the wine to breathe.

See: Gold and straw yellow

Smell: Fresh lemon, butter, honeysuckle and thyme followed by lemongrass, candied pineapple and coffee mocha

Taste: Warm brioche, marshmallow, white florals and tart yeasty notes. Structured and weighty with present acidity and chalky minerality.

Pair: Enjoy this cuvée with a spread of aged crumbly cheeses, Spanish pimentón almonds, salty meats and seedy crackers. Or drink it with grilled cheese and ripe tomato on sourdough.

Celebrate: It’s a warm, sunny day — nothing like that time you married the love of your life in a torrential downpour. But someone told you rain on your wedding day brings good luck,  and it’s true that every year together has been even better than the last. Don’t wait for your anniversary to celebrate the love of your life. Cheers to being together today and for all the days to come!

The Gimonnet family has been working in the Côte des Blancs vineyards since 1650. Today, vigneron Jean-Luc Gimonnet manages his family’s estate in the village of Cuis. His traditional Champagne-making style allows the exceptional quality of his grapes to shine, and all of his cuvées spend years, and sometimes even decades, aging on the lees before disgorgement.
