Mepetit Brut Nature 2019

Piollot

$109

Time spent aging in oak barrels gives this cuvée a uniquely complex texture and profile. The Champagne rests sur lees for four years before the vigneron releases it.

See: Soft, antique blond with piercing bubbles

Smell: Glazed doughnuts, lemon curd and wet rock. Subtle notes of roasted nuts and cedar chips.

Taste: Bright citrus and pineapple with a hint of quince. Sweet and sour followed by a grassy finish.

Pair: Enjoy this bubbling beauty with chicken Caesar salad and roasted potatoes. A lobster roll or creamy dishes like cacio e pepe and fettucini Alfredo would also make a perfect pairing.

Celebrate: You woke up early and hit the trail in time to beat the crowds and the midday heat. For five miles, you wound down through the cover of manzanitas and budding huckleberry bushes to a shady grove of redwoods before making your way back up the hill, picking up eucalyptus pods and bay leaves along the way. You’re home now, relaxing on your deck and overlooking the verdant valley below. Cheers to getting a fast start, so you can take the rest of the day nice and slow.

Roland Piollot, his wife, Dominique, and their daughter, Jeanne, produce crisp, elegant cuvées from their 8 1/2 hectares of predominantly pinot noir in and around the town of Polisot. Roland inherited the family land and a passion for tending vines from his father in 1986. Piollot’s Champagne production has been 100 percent organic since 2014, and, more recently, the estate earned a Demeter certification for biodynamic farming.
