Les Bergères Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature

Lagille

$108

One of four brut natures in the domaine’s parcellaire collection, this cuvée features 100 percent pinot noir from a vineyard called “Les Bergères,'' which is French for “shepherdess.” The wine is aged in used oak barrels hewn out of trees felled from the family land. Vincent calls his pinot grapes from this parcel as “pinots of the sun,” due to their southern sun exposure. This prime positioning is responsible for juicy, aromatic, fruit-forward grapes that lend depth and complexity. Vincent pro tip: Enjoy this after a gentle decant.

See: Regal gold with copper reflections

Smell: Warm brioche, red fruit tones and ambrosial cellar must.

Taste: Wild strawberry, black cherry and stone fruit with crunchy bread crust and a fresh saline finish. Great structure, balanced minerality and a persistent, fruity finish.

Pair: Pour this with kettle potato chips dusted in smoked paprika or with crumbly aged cheddar and fig jam. At dinner, it will complement roasted chicken with thyme and rosemary and roasted root veggies.

Celebrate: Laughter ricochets from the living room and floods the kitchen as you stand against the counter putting finishing touches on the charcuterie board. You’ll join the fun in a minute. Here’s to prioritizing life-long friendships, catching up and spending time with your people.

Nestled within  the river valley and western slopes of Montagne de Reims is Vallée de L’Ardre — the true heart of pinot meunier country and the birthplace of Domaine Lagille.

Fourth-generation vigneron Vincent Lagille oversees this long-held family domaine comprising 7 hectares of calcareous, clay-rich vineyards as well as grazing pastures and grain fields. And while he is guided by Lagille traditions that have been passed from generation to generation, Vincent is committed to paving a new more modern path for the venerable family domaine.

One of only 15 grower-producers in the Vallé de L'Ardre, Domaine Lagille has made a name for itself with excellent cuvées that are acutely reflective of their terroir. In the production house, Vincent crafts  cuvées with very low dosage in order to allow the unique terroir to take center stage in its truest expression.

Several of the domain's most exciting cuvées are part of Vincent’s vision for the future of Domaine Lagille:  single-varietal, single-plot, single-vintage wines that express the distinctive qualities of the grapes grown at the border of Treslon and the neighboring village of Vrigny, all within walking distance of the Lagille cellars.
