Vadin Plateau Chene la Butte 2014
As one of three cuvées of this nature, Yann focused here on highlighting a single vineyard, varietal, and vintage. This cuvée is 100% 2014 chardonnay from their chalky Premier Cru vineyards in Cumières. The grapes for this one grow on the slope just above their caves, under the chêne la butte (the tree on the hill).
Nose Hints of green apple, grapefruit skin, and white flower give way to distinctive earthy notes.
Taste Ripe pear, lemon and mint. Perhaps a touch of lemon grass. This gem is delicate and light on its feet. Delightful mineral undertones with every sip, and to no one’s surprise, a pleasant burst of acidity which speaks of chalky soil origins.
Food pairing Pour this wine at your next brunch alongside a spread of quiche, fresh fruit, and scones. Or savor alone with a good read in the shade of a tree.
Story An individual tree standing alone at the crest of the hill proudly oversees the vines in the valley below. Arms reaching like the best morning stretch - still but relaxed. All of a sudden the wind gusts and the once calm leaves come to life. Orange, gold, flecks of the blue sky in between limbs like a fire in the sky. Vines twist in the wind for a glimpse. Who is more in awe of one another?
Note Aged 20% in concrete egg and 80% stainless steel.
