I opened this Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) Champagne from the Cote de Blancs region on May 27th. Today, I needed the Champagne stopper for a customer. So, I took the Champagne out of the refrigerator and poured the remaining juice into my glass for an experiment.
It was totally flat as expected, but what I did not expect was the freshness that remained on the nose and palate. Incredible.
Here are my brief tasting notes:
Bracing acid, even after such a long life exposed to oxygen. Nice fruit, striking how drinkable this is with so much oxidation.
Some of the finest base wine that I have ever tasted, still so clean after an amount of time that would turn most wines into a mess of sour sherry notes. Not this beauty. Well played, Perrot-Batteaux.
